ChiropracticChiropractic

If you ask most people “what does a chiropractor do?” they will usually answer “fix bad backs” or “relieve pain”. But chiropractic is more than this.

Chiropractors do work primarily on the spine but the impact on the rest of the body can be profound. There is an intimate relationship between the spine, the nervous system and all other systems in the body and so a properly functioning (or indeed poorly functioning) nervous system can have an effect on the whole person.

You probably have a regular dental check-up and know that babies and children should be regularly checked over. However, do you know that it is beneficial to have your spine checked at regular intervals by a registered chiropractor?

McTimoney Chiropractic

The low-force nature of McTimoney Chiropractic makes it suitable for all. It is a straight-forward method of adjusting the bones of the body in order to restore and maintain the correct alignment of the spine, thus ensuring the body’s nerve supply works efficiently.

An initial consultation will comprise taking a full case history regarding general health background as well as details of symptoms, which will all help in assessing and analysing the problem. All the joints of the body, literally from head to toe, will be examined and adjusted as necessary at a treatment, since a misalignment in one part may cause the body to compensate with subsequent minor adaptations.

McTimoney Chiropractors have a finely tuned sense of touch enabling them to feel for misalignments of the vertebrae and bones and then a number of light-force, swift techniques may be used to make adjustments. Manipulation can improve mobility and relieve pain, and allow the body’s own healing processes to get on with the task of improving health.

Causes of Subluxations

Possible causes include lifting, falls, car accidents, occupational hazards, childbirth, sports injuries, emotional stress, poor posture or sleeping position.

How Chiropractic can help

Depending on where the nerve irritation has occurred in the spine, symptoms may include

  • Spine, pelvis, neck & shoulder problems
  • Posture & muscle problems
  • Sciatica
  • Sports injuries
  • Tension headaches

How many sessions will you need?

If you have not had treatment before, then on average you may need between two and ten treatments. But this will also be dependent on a number of factors, e.g:

  • Your age
  • The nature of your condition
  • How long you have had the problem
  • What you do following treatment

The Therapists

Barbara Deacon, who is also the Director of the Grove, has been in practice since 1984.  All the Chiropractors working at the Grove are registered with the UK General Chiropractic Council. True to the McTimoney philosophy, we believe that good health is not just the absence of pain or disease, but a positive sense of physical, emotional and mental well-being. The more balanced the body is, the better it will cope with the stresses of daily living, as well as with unexpected trauma.
